In response to those who do not have incriminating information or photographic representation on social media, or rather are not even at all involved with social media, there are other ways to electronically violate your privacy that can be detrimental. For instance, many smart phones are now equipped with location data. Although, it is supposed to be anonymous, there are still many ways around the system. The fact that your exact location can be made available to any willing stranger at any moment in time is unsettling to say the least. And one may say they have nothing to hide, but I know some things we are all trying to hide, our credit card numbers, our social security numbers, our identities that are supposed to be kept our own, not shared. With banking made easy, we can check our bank status, make transfers, and even make deposits in the palm of our hands, without ever having to leave the comfort of our homes. However, everything that glitters isn't necessarily gold. With your routing number, account number, and credit card number floating out there in cyber space, it is all the more possible that someone else could gain access to it. These are the things you want to hide, and the changing world makes it more and more impossible to do so.
I agree with everything that was said in this post. There are many ways around the system. And banking made easy is definitely something to be cautious of.
ReplyDeleteI also agree. Nobody thinks that anything will happen to them until it is too late. Recently, credit card information was just taken from Target's data base. I'm sure if you would have asked many of the victims before hand, they would have said they had nothing to hide. I bet now that they realize how much information is attainable, they are much more aware and unhappy about the floating information.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you pointed this out. I did not even think about credit card information on the internet and how frequently people put it out there without checking the security of the website they are using. Location services on smart phones are also a growing concern now. I think many people shrug off that concern because they feel secure with their personal phone settings, but location can be tracked even when we don't want it to be.
